Ground Station Engineering

The telemetry, command, data handling and processing functions provide for the two-way flow of information between a spacecraft and its ground control station(s). At the ground station there are transmission (uplink) and reception (downlink) functions to perform, as well as the tasks of gathering and processing data. 

The mission, orbit, type of payload(s) and the selected group of ground station(s) play an important part on determining the nature of the design of a satellite. A satellite is visible at all points on Earth's surface within a circle that is centered on the sub-satellite point, and whose diameter increases with satellite altitude. However, signals from satellites at the horizon limit are considerably attenuated by the atmosphere and so for practical purposes the surface coverage is restricted to the region in which the satellite elevation is above a given horizon degree.

E2E Ground Segment engineering represents most of the Ground Segment components and their interfaces, including several elements of the ground segment.

For ground segment operations, we manage and participate in the complete de­finition, preparation and testing of the ground based systems for operations including tests, simulations and rehearsals.
VST provides experts to validate the mission planning systems of Earth observation satellites and also to operate these systems during routine operations, driven by user demands and spacecraft constraints.

SCOS 2000 S2K

SCOS 2000 Development and Maintenance

Over the last years VisionSpace Technologies (VST) has been directly involved in the life-cycle of the Satellite Control and Operation System (SCOS 2000 or simply S2K) software. Currently S2K is the generic satellite Mission Control System (MCS) software infrastructure developed and maintained by European Space Agency (ESA/ESOC) in collaboration with European Industry, such as VST. Among others, S2K has been deployed for manifold missions such as Rosetta, Galileo, Cryosat, Cryosat-II and MetOp-A/B, MSG, Mars Express, Venus Express, XMM-Newton, Integral, RadSat 2, Integral, GOCE, Herschel-Plank and recently Swarm.

Due to its customization capabilities and historic use, S2K is claimed to be the most powerful MCS worldwide.
